Seller's Notes

This Volkswagen Beetle is a stylish example of the characterful ‘people’s car’, offered from long-term ownership. Under the rear engine lid is a 1.2-litre air-cooled flat-four, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The car has been in the seller’s possession for 21 years. The odometer was replaced in 2022 with 41,796 miles for an item that allows for the resetting of the trip, and it now shows 27,128 miles, though the car’s total mileage is unknown. Sold new in Dalby, Queensland, the seller notes that the car has had continuous registration for 67 years with the same Queensland registration plates for the duration. The car is reported to have covered 8,000 miles over the past 21 years. Build year: 1958 This Beetle is finished in Sky Blue, over a re-trimmed dark blue vinyl interior with cream piping. There are stickers on the windscreen from the 2015, 2018, and 2022 Dubs on the Hill events, as well as a ‘Groovy’ sticker in the rear window. It rides on white 15-inch wheels with chrome hubcaps, wrapped in Nankang Econex tyres. Features include push-out front quarter light windows, semaphore indicators, modern ‘blinker’ indicators, and a miniature ‘Daisy’ registration plate on the glovebox. The original key unlocks the driver’s door, and there is a separate key for the car’s new ignition system. Accompanying the vehicle will be the owner’s manuals, a Queensland road map, and evidence of its service record from the last 21 years. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: some scratches, minor dents and surface rust; attention is needed where the A pillar meets the floor; the car was repainted approximately 30 years ago; the windows have never been removed and their original rubbers are perished (except the rear window); seat belts have been fitted and need a compliance inspection plate; the original roof lining and door cards are discoloured; the door card elastics are stretched; the engine has slight oil leaks; the choke is not connected, and plenty of throttle is therefore required during the first five minutes of driving when the temperature is below five degrees celsius. The most recent service was completed in June 2024 at an indicated 27,085 miles, when the seller replaced the ignition switch, distributor cap, points, condenser and rotor. Prior to this, the engine oil was changed in August 2023, along with the speedometer unit. The engine oil was changed in July 2022. The seller notes that the car has covered around 2,000 miles since the 6V starter motor was reconditioned, and that the car has also benefitted from a gearbox mount replacement and regular brake fluid changes. In August 2016, the gearbox oil and swing axle boots were replaced. The classic Volkswagen Beetle is a true automotive icon, with a simple design and abundant replacement parts available. Having been cherished by the seller for the last 21 years, this example is ready for a new adventure with its next owner, for whom it should make a crowd-pleasing car show entrant, and a joyful companion for weekend jaunts. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must independently satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description. Potential buyers should view or arrange inspections as well as conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy. Please note that it is not uncommon for classic or collectible vehicles to have received cosmetic repairs in the past, either to rectify damage or refresh appearance, and this work may be undetectable even upon visual inspection. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy. This includes by raising enquiries with the seller in the comments section. For vehicles, unless otherwise stated, potential buyers should also assume that any cherished registration may be retained by the seller. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.
