Seller's Notes

This Messerschmitt KR200 'Kabinenroller' is a charming classic microcar. It is powered by a 191cc Fichtel & Sachs single-cylinder two-stroke engine, driving the single rear wheel via a four-speed manual transmission, and featuring a central driving position. Understood to have been supplied to Australia, this KR200 was purchased by the owner’s father in 1970 in SA, and subsequently passed to the seller in 1990, who later undertook a restoration that was completed in 2011. The odometer shows 15,202 miles, though this is not warranted, and the odometer recently stopped working. Build year: 1960 It is finished in red over a contrasting red and white interior. Equipment includes an aircraft-style yoke steering 'wheel', a tandem-style rear seat for a passenger, and a clock (currently not working). Accompanied by the original Messerschmitt workshop manual and two keys. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: the car has received a bare metal restoration, and today shows a few minor cracks in the finish, and two small cracks in the dome. The restoration was undertaken over a period of years, with numerous mechanical parts removed, cleaned, repaired and painted; and replacement parts sourced from the USA, England, Germany, France, Holland and Australia. All three tyres have recently been replaced. The seller states that it has been regularly serviced at home. They report that the engine holed a piston in 2012, and a new-old-stock replacement was sourced from the USA, which had never previously been started or used. The Messerschmitt KR200 'Kabinenroller' is a truly distinctive and charming microcar, offering a blend of post-war ingenuity and quirky design. This example has received a bare metal restoration and represents a fascinating piece of automotive history. It would make a delightful addition to any collection of unusual vehicles and promises to be an engaging talking point for its next enthusiast owner.
