Seller's Notes

This 1964 Ford Mustang Convertible is an example retained by its current owners for more than 20 years and extensively restored during their ownership. Its naturally aspirated V8 is provisionally identified as a 4.3 litre (260 cu in) unit, paired with an automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows 51,820 miles* indicated.

Ford introduced the Mustang to the public on 17 April 1964, offering distinctive styling and a wide choice of equipment in an accessible four-seat package. Early examples are commonly known as “1964½” Mustangs, although Ford designated them as 1965 models. The convertible formed part of the original range, combining the Mustang’s long bonnet and short rear deck with an open cabin. This example’s photographed data plate records a scheduled build date of 6 July 1964.

Finished in light blue with a black folding soft-top, the Mustang features blue upholstery, front bucket seats, a centre console and a wood-rim three-spoke steering wheel. It retains a left-hand-drive layout and rides on polished five-spoke wheels, described by the seller as billet items. The seller also lists power steering, upgraded disc brakes and an upgraded cooling system. The photographed identification codes record Dearborn assembly, convertible bodywork, Skylight Blue paint, blue trim, a 260 cu in V8, C4 automatic transmission and a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio. These describe its recorded factory specification rather than establish that the original mechanical components remain fitted.

The seller advises that they are the car’s second owners and its first Australian owners, having retained it for more than two decades. During their ownership, they undertook a ground-up rebuild encompassing the body, engine and interior. The supplied write-up also records a complete engine rebuild within the preceding 12 months. Servicing has been undertaken independently, with the seller noting that her husband is a mechanic.

The seller describes the interior and exterior as being in excellent condition and reports no dents or scratches. The body and cabin were restored as part of the ownership history outlined above, while the more recent engine rebuild forms the principal disclosed mechanical work.

Included with the sale are one set of keys and a jack.
