An iconic coach-built luxury saloon, and one of only 35 right-hand drive examples sporting handsome Mulliner Park Ward ‘Flying Spur’ bodywork. Under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated 6.2litre V8, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. This ‘six light’ example is believed to have had only three owners from new, and was originally delivered to the UK before being exported to Australia. The elegant Silver Cloud III was launched in 1962 and featured a slightly more powerful V8, a higher 9:1 compression ratio, a nitride-hardened crankshaft, and two-inch SU carburettors. It weighed approximately 100 kilograms less than its predecessor, and was distinguished by its quad headlamps, lower bonnet line, and individually adjustable front seats within the slightly more spacious cabin. This example is finished in the alluring Astral Blue punctuated by bright chrome accents and a red and white pinstripe across the doors. The graceful cabin is trimmed in grey leather, with extensive burr walnut inlays and blue sheepskin overmats. It rides on a set of 15-inch steel wheels with body-coloured centres and Michelin X tyres. The factory specification also includes four electrically operated windows, an emergency window winder, a sunroof, and a radio with a Hirschman electric aerial. Accompanying the car is a history file, copy of the signed build sheet, owner’s manual, spare wheel, and unused toolkit. The seller is not aware of any bodywork damage. The paintwork is reported to be in excellent order, save for a few minor blemishes noted around the car. These include a mark on the boot lid underneath the ’Silver Cloud III’ insignia, and very small stone chips inside a couple of the wheel arches. Inside, the upholstery is reportedly original and presents with some age-related creasing on the seats, wear on the driver’s seat bolster, and minor marks on the door cards and driver’s footwell carpet, though the cabin appears to be in very good overall order. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults. The Tasmanian registration expires on 28 February 2023. A service was performed approximately 200 kilometres ago, and a new radiator as well as new heater cores have recently been fitted. The car is said to have been serviced regularly throughout the seller’s six-year ownership, and was serviced regularly by Rolls-Royce specialist McDermotts throughout the 1980s and 1990s. This is a wonderfully preserved example of the rare Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III, boasting beautiful ‘Flying Spur’ bodywork as well as interesting provenance having formed part of the Bruce Terry collection for over 35 years. Accompanied by a significant history file as well as a copy of the signed build sheet, this majestic example would make a superb addition to another collection, and is sure to delight as a graceful and effortlessly luxurious companion for special occasions.
