1968 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W108 / W109

A remarkably original and reportedly rust-free example of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury W108-generation 250S saloon. It is powered by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-six engine, delivering 129bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed column-mounted manual gearbox. This 250S is believed to have originally been delivered to Canberra, and has been unregistered since 2016. The odometer only has the capacity to display five digits and currently shows 35,926 kilometres, however there are service history records from October 1978 at 134,111km, therefore the odometer is assumed to have rolled over at least once. This 250S rides on an original set of 14-inch wheels with colour-coded hub caps and polished rims, and is finished in cream paintwork over a black MB-Tex vinyl-trimmed cabin, with wooden veneers across the dashboard. The car has been fitted with a modern Philips stereo, which has USB connectivity, alongside dealer-fitted air conditioning and power steering. Accompanying the car are the original owner’s handbook and manuals, along with a historic servicing document, a spare wheel, and two keys. There is no known bodywork damage. The condition of the cream paintwork is described as fair, with some small marks and imperfections around the vehicle, including a number of chips on the front end and the doors. Moving inside, the cabin is in good condition overall, with a small tear on the driver’s seat, a small hole in the base of the front passenger seat, and some marks on the headlining. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults. The Paul Bracq-designed W108 was launched at the 1965 Frankfurt Auto Show and is an understated and handsome six-cylinder luxury saloon. This superbly original example is said to have originally been delivered to Canberra and is therefore reportedly free of any major rust. Having not been used for a number of years but noted by the seller to be running and driving well, this 250S would benefit from a check-over and general servicing before taking to the road once again, but once completed should make for a luxurious and relaxing weekend cruiser, and a stylish addition to any collection.
