Seller's Notes

This Mercedes-Benz (W108) 300 SEL 6.3 is a sought-after classic saloon, offered in largely original condition but in need of cosmetic restoration and mechanical recommissioning. It is powered by a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated M100 V8 with Bosch fuel injection, originally producing around 247bhp, driven through the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays 13,838 kilometres; however this is not accurate, and the true mileage cannot be warranted. The car has been with the seller for eight years, after previously being stored by the previous owner for 20 years. This 300 SEL is finished in its original White hue over a blue leather-trimmed interior with a cream headlining, punctuated by wood trim inlays on the dashboard, door cards and window frames. It rides on 14-inch ATS 'Baroque’ alloy wheels, shod with Michelin XW4 tyres. The factory specification includes front and rear electric windows, air conditioning, push-out front quarter light windows, a sunroof, rear passenger storage netting, dual front armrests, variable speed windscreen wipers, self-levelling air suspension, and ventilated disc brakes. This 300 SEL now features an upgraded Sony Xplod stereo with a CD multichanger and a Sony sound system, as well as a Mallory ignition module. The car will be supplied with its owner’s manual, stamped service booklet, replacement floor mats, a spare rear armrest, a cross wheel socket wrench, a replacement Mercedes-Benz bowden cable, and a booklet on the air conditioning system. The seller notes some rust and corrosion on both lower chassis rails around the jacking points. The sills have also rusted through in various places, and there is also a visible hole in the rear driver’s-side wheel arch, which can be seen inside the boot. The White paintwork is reported to be in fair condition, though the seller notes some rust spots and blemishes on the doors with some corrosion and bubbling on the driver’s door. There are also minor scuffs on the front bumper rubber overrider, discolouration in the nearside windscreen wiper arm recess, a small dent on the passenger door chrome trim, some rust spots on both lower sills, slight rust on the nearside C-pillar, small rust spots on the top edge of the rear panel just below the boot lid, dents on the rear chrome waistline trim, and some minor damage on the offside rear bumper rubber overrider. Moving inside, the cabin is presented in fair shape. The seller notes that the wooden framework on the doors will need to be replaced due to some damage and warping. There is a small tear on the steering wheel boss, missing carpet in the front footwells, scratches in the passenger side dashboard wood trim, sagging on the rear passenger net storage, some discolouration around the sunroof headlining, wear on the driver’s centre armrest, minor wear on the passenger door card storage pocket, cracking on the front passenger tread plate rubber, and creasing on the seats, with some wear on the front seats lower trim and minor blemishes on the driver’s seat. There are no known electrical faults, though the seller notes that the engine has a small internal leak, for which replacement seals have been obtained but not fitted. Bidders should note that the battery for the car was removed so it could be recharged, and it will be reconnected once the seller is satisfied that the battery is in good condition. The car has been started and run on numerous occasions by the seller’s mechanic, who has worked on their cars over the last 25 years. While the suspension is sitting low in the photos, the seller notes that it is in working condition. This 300 SEL’s most recent maintenance was carried out in November 1986 at 97,198 Kms by Worrells Mercedes Motors PTY Limited, which consisted of an ‘E’ service including oil and filters. Other notable serving includes some restorative mechanical maintenance.
