Seller's Notes

An iconic classic car, offered for sale from long-term ownership. It is powered by a replacement 1.6-litre dual-port air-cooled flat-four, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Prior to being acquired by the seller in 2009, this Beetle had two previous owners from within the same family. The odometer shows 61,618 miles, which the seller believes to be correct but says cannot be warranted. This Beetle was largely manufactured in Germany but was completed in Australia as a ‘CKD’ assembly model. It is finished in off-white over a red vinyl interior, and rides on a set of 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and front disc brakes. The car has been fitted with Thule roof bars, a heated rear window, and a steering wheel cover. The engine was replaced with a dual-port 1.6-litre unit in 2008. Accompanying the car is the owner’s handbook, original purchase receipt, various invoices, including comprehensive service records since 2009, a ‘birth certificate’ issued by the VW Museum in Germany, spare wheel, jack and wheel brace, pedal to steering wheel lock and plug-in GPS. There is no known bodywork damage. The condition of the paintwork is described as good, save for various chips and blemishes around the bodywork as well as a little paint damage below the fuel cap. The seller notes that the car appears to have been resprayed. Moving inside, the cabin presents very well, and the driver’s seat has been repadded and reupholstered. There is damage on the piping of the front passenger seat, and general wear on the gear lever, steering wheel, door cards, grab handles, headlining, boot lining, and dashboard. The seller notes that the clutch release bearing is noisy when the clutch pedal is fully depressed, the speedometer cable occasionally makes a ‘whining’ noise, there is no windscreen washer bottle, the radio speaker is a little ‘crackly’, and the fresh-air control knobs, hazard warning lights, internal fuel flap release handle, and heated rear window are currently non-functional. An e-safety inspection for registration renewal is said to have taken place in September 2021, which resulted in a pass with advisories noted for a noisy clutch release bearing, minor surface rust below the brake master cylinder, a binding left front brake calliper, and the fitment of an old cross-ply spare tyre. European vehicle specialist Pacific Motors in Pymble serviced the car in September 2021 at 61,511 miles, which included applying lubrication, charging the battery, cleaning the air filter, and replacing the engine oil and oil filter. Pacific Motors also serviced the car and repaired the exhaust in September 2019 at 61,107 miles, and performed a general service in September 2018 at 60,905 miles. Pacific Motors are said to have maintained the car since it was purchased by the seller in 2009 when the odometer was showing 54,500. During current ownership, other parts replaced include the clutch cable, gearshift linkage bushes, headlights, driveshaft boots, tyres and seatbelts. The wheels have been repainted, and the brakes have been overhauled. This is an original example of Volkswagen’s automotive icon, which is finished in an attractive colour combination and is believed to have covered a modest 61,618 miles from new. While the new owner may wish to attend to a few items highlighted in due course, this characterful classic should prove to be a stylish and fun weekend cruiser as well as a natural addition to any classic collection. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence.
