Seller's Notes

This 1970 MG Midget MkIII is a wire-wheeled roadster that has remained with its current owner for approximately ten years. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 1,275 cc inline four, factory-rated at approximately 48 kW (65 hp), paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows 89,752 miles* indicated.

Introduced in 1961, the modern MG Midget shared its foundations with the Austin-Healey Sprite, offering compact dimensions and straightforward mechanicals in a two-seat sports car. The MkIII arrived in 1966 with a larger 1,275 cc A-series engine and a folding hood that simplified roof operation. This 1970 example belongs to the earlier MkIII period, retaining the squared rear wheelarches used before the later round-arch body revision.

Finished in white with a black interior and black folding soft-top, the Midget features wire wheels and a wood-rim three-spoke steering wheel. Grey sheepskin covers are fitted over the seats, while twin SU carburettors provide induction. The photographed paint label records Crystal White, code 506-11572. Its Leyland Australia identification plate records YGN5-608, corresponding with chassis number YGN5608 on the supplied PPSR certificate.

The seller advises that they have owned the Midget for approximately ten years, with earlier ownership history unknown. The supplied maintenance summary records refurbishment of the clutch, fuel tank and carburettors, replacement of the clutch master cylinder and renewal of the exhaust system. The seller also confirms that a new battery has been fitted. Dates for these individual works have not been supplied.

The seller describes the seats and underbody as being in satisfactory condition and advises that the car has always been garaged. These are the seller’s assessments; no separate condition assessment has been supplied for the soft-top.

Included with the sale are a complete workshop manual, some spare-parts receipts, a spare wheel and a tonneau cover for the cockpit.
