This 1970 Datsun 1600 is a fully restored example, combining an L20B-based stroker engine and five-speed manual transmission with extensively upgraded suspension. Its naturally aspirated inline-four features twin 47 mm OER carburettors, with a reported dyno-verified output of 180 hp at the rear wheels. The replacement Speedhut instrumentation currently shows 1,605 km* indicated, with the true mileage unknown.
Introduced in 1967, the 510-series Datsun combined angular styling with an overhead-camshaft engine and four-wheel independent suspension in sedan form. Known locally as the Datsun 1600, it provided a compact platform that became popular for both road and competition use.
Repainted in its factory Honey Brown colour in February 2026, this example features refurbished 15-inch Simmons wheels, new chrome front and rear bumpers, and replacement genuine Nissan indicators and tail lights. The interior combines new OMP front seats retrimmed in brown houndstooth with matching factory rear seats, genuine Japanese-market SSS-specification door cards and new headlining. New carpet, sound deadening, insulation and a replacement dashboard pad have also been fitted. Further details include a Renown Time Trial Cafe limited-edition steering wheel with brown stitching, a collapsible steering column and custom Speedhut instrumentation incorporating a GPS speedometer, tachometer, oil and fuel gauges.
The engine build uses an L20B block with an 89 mm bore, a machined Z24 crankshaft, L20B connecting rods and milled Z24 pistons with chrome rings. The V91 cylinder head features cleaned-up ports, a Stewart Wilkins Racing valve spring and retainer kit, and a Clive Cams Nismo 76 Works-profile camshaft specified for the stroker configuration. Supporting equipment includes a rebuilt and regraphed distributor, a Raceworks catch can and twin electric cooling fans. Ceramic-coated Stewart Wilkins Racing headers feed a 2½-inch exhaust system with a muffler and resonator.
An R30 “stumpy” five-speed gearbox is paired with a custom lightweight 240 mm flywheel and heavy-duty clutch. The modified tailshaft has new universal joints, while the clutch hydraulics include replacement master and slave cylinders. The fuel tank has been stripped and cleaned, with larger outlet lines, an underfloor electric fuel pump and a replacement flexible filler hose fitted.
Chassis work includes SuperPro bushes throughout, powder-coated suspension components, a rebuilt steering box and replacement steering linkages and ball joints. Datsport Race front struts and an adjustable rear crossmember have been installed. Braking upgrades include R31 rear discs, Datsport handbrake cables and master cylinder, a Datsun 180B booster and replacement brake lines.
The seller has owned the car for approximately six years and reports no known current mechanical faults. They describe the repainted exterior as being in excellent condition and confirm that the seats and carpets have been renewed as part of the interior retrim. Other refurbishment work includes replacement rubber seals, a new windscreen, reconditioned window-winder mechanisms, a genuine interior light and a new OEM fuse box. No accident history is reported.
