Seller's Notes

An Australian-built classic, the Ford Fairlane 500 delivered a rare mix of luxury and performance to the nation’s roads. Under the bonnet is the 302ci (4.9-litre) Cleveland V8 engine, sending up to 220bhp and 300lb-ft to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. Prior to the current vendor, this Ford Fairlane ZD had been in the same family since new and was in storage for the past 18 years. Designed and built in Australia, and the final version of the original Z-series Fairlanes, the ZD model was released in November 1970. This Fairlane 500 features the 302ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering and power front disc brakes as standard equipment. The timeless Silver paintwork is complemented by the Lincoln Continental-inspired grille, vertically stacked headlights and revised tail light arrangement. The original interior is complete with adjustable bucket seats, wood trim, heating and cooling, and the black-backed instrument cluster. The vehicle is fitted with a Lankar cassette/radio and the manual is supplied. There is no known body damage. The Silver paintwork remains in very good condition, with some minor marks and blemishes and small stone chips on the bonnet and doors, commensurate with the age of the vehicle. The chrome bumpers are in good condition, while the front grille has some surface rust evident. All of the factory badges are present and correct. Inside, the plush Red trim of the front seats presents well, though the rear seats have significant cracking along the top edge of the bench. The dash, door cards and roof lining remain in generally good order, with a slight tear in the passenger door handle and one crack in the dashboard. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults. The vehicle last underwent a roadworthy inspection in 1999, and its last documented service was in January 2000, shortly prior to the car going into long-term storage. This Ford ZD Fairlane 500 is a classic Australian car and an icon of the locally produced luxury vehicle segment. Powered by a tractable 302ci V8 and with a roomy and well-appointed interior, the Fairlane was a favourite for its ability to cover long distances in comfort. Having been in storage for the past 18 years, the vehicle presents well, and could be driven as-is or treated to a restoration. Fairlanes of this era are increasingly hard to find in such original condition, so this is a great opportunity for a dedicated collector.
