Seller's Notes

This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback features a rebuilt and upgraded 351ci V8 with electronic fuel injection, a modified C6 automatic transmission and a replacement nine-inch differential. Owned by the current seller for five years, it has reportedly covered approximately 1,000 km since the engine rebuild and associated upgrades. The odometer currently shows 54,294 miles* TMU.

First introduced for 1969, the Mach 1 combined the Mustang’s SportsRoof body with distinctive styling and performance equipment. The extensively restyled 1971 Mustang brought larger proportions, a longer nose and a wider body, with the Mach 1 continuing as a SportsRoof-only model.

Finished in yellow with black Mach 1 graphics, the Mustang features a twin-scoop bonnet, front spoiler, rear wing and American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. The seller identifies the colour as Goldenrod Yellow and describes the colour and stripe combination as original to the vehicle. The interior combines light-coloured seats and door trims with a black dashboard and carpets. Upgrades include a timber-rim sports steering wheel, B&M shifter and Bluetooth stereo with an amplifier.

The seller identifies one previous Australian owner and has maintained the car in their own workshop. The engine, described by the seller as the original unit, has been completely rebuilt with hypereutectic pistons, ARP connecting-rod bolts, a balanced crank assembly, stainless-steel valves, roller rockers and a performance camshaft. Further work includes ported and polished cylinder heads, head studs, a high-capacity alloy sump, an alloy front plate and Cal Custom rocker covers. Induction and ignition upgrades comprise MSD fuel injection, an Edelbrock intake manifold and MSD ignition. An alloy radiator, electric cooling fans and a high-torque starter are also fitted.

A rebuilt C6 automatic replaces the original FMX transmission, accompanied by a new tailshaft and nine-inch differential. The seller also reports replacement brakes, suspension and tyres, with the ride height adjusted to suit the wheels and handling. Ceramic-coated Hooker headers feed a 3½-inch exhaust system, which the seller describes as loud, with a pronounced uneven idle.

The seller describes the bodywork and paint finish as being in outstanding condition, with no paint blemishes reported. Window surrounds and door handles have been replaced, along with many fasteners and the lock system. Use has been limited since the engine build. The seller advises that the fuel-injection system requires calibration by a tuner to achieve its best performance.

Two sets of keys are included with the sale. Service books are not available.
