This Alfa Romeo Spider is a wonderful example of the charming Italian sports car, finished in a highly appealing colour scheme and presented in solid, original condition. It is powered by a 2.0-litre twin-cam inline-four engine fed by twin Weber carburettors, which is coupled to a slick-shifting five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays just 68,643 kilometres from new. This 1972 2000 Spider Veloce has been with its mechanic owner for the past 25 years, who has serviced the car annually. The car has recently spent some time in storage and has seen limited use, but is reported to be running and driving well. As a 1972 example, this early Series 2 Spider features a pair of diminutive rear seats, making it a ‘2+2’ roadster. It is finished in the ever-popular hue of Rosso with a contrasting black vinyl convertible roof, over a tan vinyl-trimmed cabin accented by chrome handles and a dark wood-rimmed steering wheel. It rides on a set of period correct 14-inch optional Cromodora ‘Daytona’ magnesium wheels shod in Champiro tyres and framing silver brake callipers. The car has been fitted with a sport air cleaner box rather than the standard item, but is otherwise highly original, and even features a classic radio/cassette player. There is no impact damage present on the bodywork. The Rosso paintwork is in generally very good condition, showing light minor wear such as stone chipping and small markings expected from a car of this age. The vendor notes in particular some stone chipping to the lower areas of the car. Inside, the cabin presents well, with some creasing and light wear on the tan vinyl-trimmed seats, and a generally pleasant ‘patina’ on the gauges, switches, and chrome trim items, which is in line with the car’s age and use. The vendor reports some increased wear on the driver’s-side carpet. The radio cassette player does not function, and is reported never to have during the vendor’s 25 years of ownership. There are no known mechanical faults, and no warning lights are showing on the dashboard. The current owner is a qualified mechanic and has performed all maintenance on the car in the last 25 years, but has no accompanying paperwork for any of the work. This Spider’s latest service was carried out approximately 12 months ago at around 65,000 km. Which consisted of an engine oil and filter change and a brake fluid change. Prior to this, the car was reported to have been serviced every year which always included an engine oil and filter change, as well as attending to any items which needed repair or replacement. This Alfa Romeo Spider represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a very original example of the classic Italian roadster, which has been maintained to a high standard by its mechanic owner. While the car has been used sparingly in recent years, it is reported to be running well, and should make an ideal summer cruiser for any Alfisti.
