Seller's Notes

This 280 SE 3.5 is an elegantly styled four-door saloon, with a characterful powertrain and benefiting from nearly $21,000 in recent maintenance. Under the bonnet sits the naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V8, driving the rear wheels through a column-shift four-speed automatic transmission. This 280 SE 3.5 has been fitted with a modern Caliber stereo and an under-dash air conditioning system. The car is finished in Blue over a grey vinyl-trimmed cabin, punctuated by wooden inlays. It rides on a set of 14-inch ‘Bundt’ wheels, shod with whitewall tyres. The specification includes a Smiths Ultra Stream under-dash air conditioning system and a Caliber stereo, which retains a classic look but brings USB, SD, and auxiliary inputs. An internal security cut-out switch has been fitted. Accompanying the sale is the original data card, owner’s manual, service book, various maintenance invoices, new door seals fitted, spare wheel, and two keys. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: small blemishes around the bodywork, a mark on the inside of the left-hand rear door, and a damaged window winder on the right-hand front door. The wooden door inlays have been replaced. The seller reports that the clock is non-functional. The car was last serviced by CMR Automotive Sydney, who performed various rust repairs and worked on the steering, engine, and suspension. The seller reports that the invoice came to $20,600. Prior to this, Lastys in Geelong carried out a service to roadworthy in October 2022. This Mercedes-Benz (W116) 280 SE 3.5 is a stylish classic German saloon, pairing its muscular V8 and smooth-shifting automatic transmission with handsome styling and a comfortable cabin. Reported to run and drive well, it would make a usable addition to any collection as a delightful classic weekend cruiser, sure to draw admiring glances wherever the new owner chooses to venture. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must independently satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description. Potential buyers should view or arrange inspections as well as conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy. Please note that it is not uncommon for classic or collectible vehicles to have received cosmetic repairs in the past, either to rectify damage or refresh appearance, and this work may be undetectable even upon visual inspection. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy. This includes by raising enquiries with the seller in the comments section. For vehicles, unless otherwise stated, potential buyers should also assume that any cherished registration may be retained by the seller. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details. This vehicle’s VIN has been checked against the Australian Personal Property Securities Register, and there is no security interest or other registration kind logged against the serial number.
