Seller's Notes

A highly original example of the elegant ‘70s pillarless coupe, which is in good condition for its age. Under the bonnet is the 2.8-litre straight-six petrol engine producing around 182bhp, coupled to a four-speed automatic gearbox. First registered in July 1972, this 280 CE presents as a well-maintained example that is ready to enjoy. The current odometer reading is not accurate, as the car has covered around 168,000 miles. This 280 CE was specified in the timeless Classic White (050) hue over a luxurious Tan interior. The car rides on factory 14-inch chromed wheels with body-coloured hubcaps. The vehicle is fitted with the optional factory air-conditioning system. The stereo system has been upgraded with MB Quart speakers and an Alpine four channel amplifier. The vehicle is supplied with its original owner’s manuals, service book and original dealer delivery certificate. There is no known body damage. Believed to still be original, the Classic White paintwork is in very good condition overall, with a finish that belies the age. A small dint and scratch repair are present on the driver’s side quarter panel. The signature double bumpers and grille, brightwork and badges are all in good order. Inside, the Tan upholstery is in generally excellent condition, with the driver’s seat showing just a small tear at the rear. The coating on the gear shifter is also worn. The dashboard, carpets and trim present very well, there is some minor sagging on the driver’s door card, and the rear speaker trim requires replacing in due course. All instruments and controls work as they should. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults. The most recent roadworthy inspection was performed on 3 August 2021, with a clean pass and no warnings or advisories issued. The most recent service was performed at approximately 168,000 miles by Mercedes-Benz specialist Alan Lennox Motors, with a full service and safety inspection performed. Prior to this, Alan Lennox Motors performed a major service and repaired the ignition. This Mercedes-Benz 280 CE is a highly original example of the stylish W114-generation car, presented in the rarer pillarless coupe configuration. It benefits from recent maintenance, a current roadworthy certificate and is offered in impressive overall condition for its near-50 years of age. Exuding class and sophistication, it would make an eye-catching collector classic, or a relaxing weekend cruiser. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading.
