Seller's Notes

This 1979 Rover 3500 (SD1) is a beautifully preserved example of the well-loved British Leyland classic. A 3.5-litre Rover V8 sends power to the rear wheels via a three-speed Borg Warner Type 65 automatic transmission. Original and thoroughly documented, including a fuel logbook maintaining a record of all top-ups and mileage, plus notable maintenance, between 1985 and 2021. It is finished in the period-perfect combination of Midas Gold over a tan cloth interior. The car features factory air conditioning and central locking. Kept in original condition maintaining the original factory specification. Sold with the original owner’s handbooks and service manuals as well as various receipts and registration renewals from 1988 and a fuel logbook from 1985 to 2021. No known bodywork damage. Its panels look to be in very good condition, showing no dents or damage, as do the exterior trims. Benefitting from some prior refurbishment, the paintwork is in very good to excellent condition. There is a small on the leading edge of the bonnet. Its upholstery is believed to be original and is in great condition, presenting very well for its age. The headliner has been replaced, and the driver’s seat has some sagging on the outside edge. Well maintained and recently serviced, the SD1 has no known mechanical or electrical faults, nor issues with controls or gauges. The most recent roadworthiness test was carried out in 2020 and no issues were reported. The car is currently unregistered as NSW is not allowing historic registration in at the present time. The most recent service was performed by Chatswood Brake and Clutch at 147,000 km. Work included servicing the steering rack, replacing two tie rod ends, the rear wheel cylinders and brake fluid, as well as a wheel alignment and testing and re-gassing the air conditioning. The brake booster was replaced in June 2021 and a fluid check was performed in February 2021. Some front suspension bushes may now need replacing, but there are no other items known to need attention in the near future. Presented in remarkably original condition, this 1979 Rover 3500 (SD1) is a fine example of the British classic. It is an especially well-documented car, and will be sold with comprehensive fuel log and service and registration history. Praised in its day for its proficiency as a driver’s car as well as its practicality, it represents a compelling opportunity for someone seeking a classy and usable classic.
