Seller's Notes

An ex-fire truck from Japan, this 1980 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser is an extremely rare and collectible example of the classic 4x4. Equipped with a 4.2-litre Toyota 2F petrol inline six-cylinder engine, four speed manual transmission with high and low range gearing and a four-wheel drive system. Imported from Japan to Australia, this former fire truck is complete with all the features and accessories you would expect. It is presented in original and unrestored condition. The bodywork is finished in red, with colour-coded heavy duty steel wheels. It also has a basic canvas soft top over the cab to provide limited protection from sun or rain. The rear window of the soft top has deteriorated and fallen out over time. The truck features Power Take-Off driven pumps. All of the labels for the controls are in Japanese. The missing lights at the rear are assumed to have been the emergency beacons, but the rest of the original equipment is assumed to be potentially operational – though all of it would require recommissioning at the very least. In the rear section, there are two basic bench seats; one above a lockable storage unit, and the other a fold-down item. The comprehensive accompanying photo gallery shows a truck in solid original condition, though bearing the odd bumps, scrapes, and other damage you would expect from a service vehicle. The bodywork is in generally good order, with minor dints around the panels, and a larger dented area of metal near one of the rear bench seats. The right-side bench seat cover has completely deteriorated. The fire extinguishers and numerous exterior knobs, wheels, and levers are in place and appear to be in good original condition, showing some patina and surface rust from age and use. Spartan and purposeful, the interior is in fair condition with the durable vinyl seat covers and dashboard trim having held up well. The metal centre console and chequer plate floor panels are in good shape, but there is some rust to be found. Recently serviced, the truck presents no major signs of mechanical or electrical issues. The owner carried out a service at an indicated 5,000km in May 2021, performing a routine oil and filter change. The spark plugs and fuel filter have also been replaced during the current period of ownership. Presented in unrestored original condition, this 1980 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser is an ex-Japanese fire service truck is a quirky and eye-catching utility vehicle. It appears to be largely complete and in solid condition, and now deserves some sympathetic refurbishment or perhaps even a total restoration by a passionate enthusiast.
