Seller's Notes

This Leyland Moke is a fine example of the rare ex-Australian military utility vehicle, offered from long-term ownership, and benefitting from previous restorative maintenance. It is powered by a transversely mounted 998cc inline-four, driving the front wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows a modest 73,862 Kms from new. This Leyland Moke is understood to be one of only 316 examples ordered by the Australian Army from 1973 to 1981. The vehicle has been with the seller and third owner for 17 years. This Moke is finished in Olive Drab over a full galvanised body, with a green heavy-duty canvas roof and white bumper bars, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior, featuring exposed body-coloured panels. It rides on a set of 13-inch steel wheels finished in gloss white, shod in Silverstone STV 128 tyres. The specification includes front and rear TAC-plate holders and a document holder behind the driver’s seat (a feature of the military version), variable-speed electric windscreen wipers, a three-spoke steering wheel, a Smiths speedometer, heater controls, a removable canvas roof with zip-out side door panels, and a rear trailer plug. The car will be supplied with a spare wheel. The Olive Drab paintwork has previously been resprayed and is described by the seller as being in excellent overall condition, though there are a few very minor blemishes on the front bumper bar, wear and discolouration on the front and rear TAC-plates, and small chips on the offside rear wheel arch. Stepping inside, the cabin is presented in great shape, with very light signs of use on the seats, an honest ‘patina’ on the dashboard gauges and controls, and a few other minor blemishes around the trim, but no major wear. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults with the vehicle. This Moke’s most recent full service was carried out in 2018 at around 69,000 Kms by JRM Auto Garage, which also included the replacement of the brakes and brake lines. The engine oil and oil filter were changed in 2016 and 2014, when the spark plugs and points were also renewed. Notable restorative maintenance carried out in 2006 includes the body being stripped to bare metal and resprayed, the engine rebuilt, the shock absorbers and brakes replaced, a new canvas roof fitted, and all minor parts replaced with genuine Moke parts. This Leyland Moke is a well-presented example of the characterful yet capable ex-Australian military utility vehicle, offered from long-term ownership, and benefitting from previous restorative maintenance. Understood to be one of only 316 examples ordered by the Australian Army, and presented in excellent overall condition, it has mainly been used in Anzac Day parades over the last 10 years. This Moke would make a fine addition to any collection, and a wonderful companion for weekend jaunts, fair-weather cruising, and classic car show visits alike. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid.
