This W123-generation Mercedes-Benz 280 TE is a handsome and well-engineered classic station wagon, offered in highly original condition. It is powered by a 2.8-litre naturally aspirated straight-six, producing around 182bhp, driven through the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The car has been enjoyed as intended, but clearly well maintained, and the odometer shows 220,073 Kms from new. This 280 TE is finished in Light Ivory over a Palomino MB-Tex leatherette-trimmed interior, offset by a black centre console and dashboard, which is punctuated by wood trim inlays. It rides on the correct set of 14-inch 15-hole light alloy wheels, shod with Hankook Optimo tyres. The factory specification includes the optional rear-facing third row of seats, a full OEM roof rack, air conditioning, a heated rear windscreen with windscreen wiper, central locking, a Becker Grand Prix stereo, electric front and rear windows, and a folding front armrest. This 280 TE features some upgrades including the air conditioning converted to R134a refrigerant and a dual USB input. The car comes with a number of spare parts, two roof bars, all of the original owner’s manuals, a stamped service book, and a folder of service invoices. There is no known prior accident damage. The rear right side floor has been previously repaired with photo documentation, and there is a poor prior repair below the spare wheel on the left side. The Light Ivory paintwork is reported to be in good condition overall. The seller notes a small area of rust around the window trim on the tailgate. There are also some minor blemishes and slight corrosion on the lower front bumper, slight rust on the front edge of the bonnet and offside front wing, a small blemish above the front windscreen on the nearside, a crack in the nearside headlight lens, small dents in the driver’s door, small chips on the front edge of both rear doors, a dent in the rear passenger-side door, rust and bubbles on the lower nearside rear quarter, some rust and pitting on the roof rack, and a small rust spot behind the aerial. Inside, the cabin is presented in good shape. There is some discolouration on the front footwells, a small tear on the back of the passenger headrest, discolouration on the passenger-side rear floor mat, missing carpet on the driver’s-side rear footwell, a small tear on the front passenger upper door seal, discolouration spots on the centre armrest, and light rust and discolouration on the rear passenger-side door card ashtray. Elsewhere, there are small tears on the tailgate trim, a nick on the driver’s-side boot trim, deteriorated rubber seals on the driver’s door, a small nick on the rear bench seat base, and a scuff on the driver’s-side rear door card ashtray. The radio aerial connection needs attention, and there is a minor engine oil leak. This 280 TE’s most recent maintenance was carried out in January 2021 at 218,600 Kms by the previous owner, which included an engine oil and filter change, as well as the replacement and resetting of the SLS adjuster. The rear brake discs and pads were replaced in March 2021 at 219,091 Kms. Other notable maintenance includes new differential oil in November 2019 at 215,500 Kms, power steering and transmission oils and filters changed in August 2019, the front engine main seals and collar renewed with OEM parts, new radiator hoses, and a replacement air conditioning compressor with re-gas in December 2018.
