This Toyota HJ60 Land Cruiser is a remarkably well-preserved example of the marque’s eminently versatile modern classic 4x4, offered with a strong early maintenance history. Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 4.0-litre diesel straight-six, driving all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. This example has been driven and enjoyed as intended but evidently very well maintained throughout, and the odometer shows 306,358 Kms from new. This Land Cruiser is finished in the appealing shade of Metallic Blue with silver waistline decals, over a grey striped cloth and half vinyl-trimmed interior, featuring a two-tone grey dashboard. It now rides on an aftermarket set of 16-inch five-spoke chromed steel wheels, shod in Toledo tyres. The factory specification includes a heated rear windscreen, a three-spoke steering wheel, a high and low range gearbox, a Sanyo cassette stereo, heater and ventilation controls, a digital clock, an inclinometer, and manually operated windows. This example now features an aftermarket AIT turbocharger kit, which was fitted in 1987 at 38,000 Kms, as well as aluminium side steps, an alloy bull bar, a Hayman Reese tow bar, and a BES turbo timer. The car is accompanied by the original owner’s manual and service booklet, the original Toyota delivery card, a jack, and extensive handwritten service details. The Metallic Blue paintwork is described by the seller as being in excellent overall condition. There is a minor spot of bubbling (about 1cm in width) noted on the leading edge of the bonnet, as well as a small mark on the driver’s-side corner of the front bumper bar. Moving inside, the cabin is presented in excellent order given the car’s age and usage, though the seller notes a previous minor vinyl repair on the side of the driver’s seat. There is also very slight stretching on the seats, two small cracks on the centre console trim above the heater controls, and very modest signs of use around the trim, but no major wear. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard. The car’s last REGO test was conducted on 8 November 2021, and was recorded as a clean pass. This Land Cruiser’s most recent recorded service was carried out in January 2005 at approximately 200,000 Kms, which consisted of a general service and the fuel filter being replaced. 12 Oct 1984, 6 Kms PDI at Benalla Toyota 29 Nov 1984, 1,064 Kms at Benalla Toyota 30 Jan 1985, 8,153 Kms 19 Jul 1985, 13,000 Kms (Approx.) 16 Mar 1987, 30,000 Kms (Approx.) 3 Sep 1988, 47,000 Kms (Approx.) 31 Jul 1989, 58,000 Kms (Approx.) 20 May 1990, 68,000 Kms (Approx.) 27 Jul 1992, 100,000 Kms (Approx.) 20 Nov 1993, 120,219 Kms (Approx.) 31 Oct 1994, 130,000 Kms (Approx.) 25 May 1996, 150,000 Kms (Approx.) 23 Jan 2000, 171,000 Kms (Approx.) 5 Nov 2001, 180,500 Kms (Approx.) 1 Jan 2005, 200,000 Kms (Approx.) This Toyota HJ60 Land Cruiser is a striking and remarkably well-preserved example of the supremely capable modern classic 4x4, offered in highly original condition and with a strong early maintenance history. Presented in impressive overall condition and boasting an aftermarket turbocharger to enhance its straight-six diesel engine, it would make a handsome addition to any modern classic collection, and an eye-catching and versatile companion for retro daily driving, longer-distance road trips, and off-road adventures.
