This E28-generation BMW M535i is a collectible classic sports saloon, understood to have had a total of three owners from new. It is powered by a 3.4-litre inline-six, delivering around 160kW to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. This M535i has covered approximately 192,000 kilometres. The car is finished in Alpine White over a black leather-trimmed cabin, punctuated by M-tricolour detailing on the seats and green Alpina floor mats. It rides on a set of 18-inch multi-spoke Alpina wheels from an E39-generation 5 Series, fitted with Yokohama tyres. Equipment includes a sunroof, electric windows, an on-board computer, a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB stereo, and Alpine speakers. Accompanying the sale are maintenance documents from July 2022 to 2024, the original BBS wheels shod with Yokohama 195/55R15 tyres, toolkit, first aid kit, and warning triangle. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: minor stone chips and blemishes on the leading edge of the bonnet, a hairline crack on the dashboard, and discolouration on the headlining around the C-pillars. Rust repairs have been carried out on the underside of the right-hand rear door, which was then primed and painted. The seller states that one of the press studs for the headlining is missing, and the on-board computer is non-functional. A VICRoads certificate of roadworthiness was reportedly obtained on 9 July 2022. The car is currently registered on a Victorian club permit, which expires on 2 August 2025. In December 2022 at 189,421 kilometres, Southern BM had the instrument cluster repaired to correct a battery drain, subcontracted out the rust repair on the right-hand-rear door, installed window channel seals, replaced the main and air-conditioning belts, and removed and refitted the left-hand-front window motor. Prior to this, Southern BM serviced the car in July 2022, which included cleaning the air filter, bleeding the brake and clutch fluid, lubricating the window regulator sliders, repairing the right-hand-front door catch, sealing the door trim backings, reconditioning the right-hand-front door lock, aligning the wheels, and replacing the engine oil, oil filter, gearbox oil, differential oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, gear knob and emblem, gear shifter, rear torsional ball joints, left-hand-rear tyre, castor rod bushes, a track rod, and selector blocks. The left-hand front fog light bulb has also been replaced during the seller’s two-year ownership. The E28-generation BMW M535i is an acclaimed classic sporting saloon powered by a muscular and free-revving inline-six that is paired with a precise and involving dogleg manual transmission. This example has been upgraded with a set of Alpina wheels for a more modern aesthetic, though its original wheels are also included should the new keeper wish to refit them. Whilst a fresh oil service is now recommended, once this is completed, this M535i would make a fine addition to a collection of BMW sporting classics as well as an involving companion for a fresh set of weekend trips and country-road blasts.
