Seller's Notes

This E30-generation BMW 323i John Player Special is a particularly well-preserved example of the extremely rare special-edition modern classic coupe, offered for sale by its third owner from new. Under the bonnet sits a 2.3-litre ‘M20’ straight-six, delivering around 110kW to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. This original Australian-market example has been with the seller and reportedly third owner for two years. This E30-era 323i John Player Special is one of only 70 examples produced exclusively for the Australian market. The odometer shows 165,841 Kms from new. The 323i John Player Special was a limited-edition model offered exclusively by BMW Australia as a tribute to the highly competitive JPS Team BMW cars racing in the Australian Touring Car Championship. The model was finished in black with contrasting gold pinstripes, and featured gold-finished BBS alloy wheels, Recaro sports seats, unique JPS badging, a limited-slip differential, Bilstein suspension, a sports steering wheel, and front and rear spoilers. Inside, the cabin features black half vinyl and grey textured velour cloth upholstery. It rides on a correct set of 15-inch BBS split-rim alloy wheels finished in gold with polished barrels and JPS centre caps, shod in Hifly HF805 Challenger tyres. The factory specification includes a top-tinted windscreen, a heated rear screen, push-out rear windows, an on-board computer, air conditioning, a BMW-branded Bavaria cassette stereo, an optional electric sunroof, and electrically operated windows and door mirrors. This example has been upgraded with a period M3 exhaust system. The car comes with the owner’s manual, the original tools, and five years’ worth of maintenance and parts invoices. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: the stereo surround is missing. This 323i’s most recent maintenance was carried out in October 2022 at 165,793 Kms by ATP Automotive, which consisted of a new clutch being fitted, the flywheel machined, new tie rod ends fitted, an engine oil and filter change, new link pins, the rear main gearbox seal replaced, and the gearbox oil changed. This E30-generation BMW 323i John Player Special is a particularly well-preserved example of the extremely rare special-edition modern classic coupe, offered for sale by its third owner from new and reported to be in highly original condition. One of only 70 examples produced exclusively for the Australian market, it would make a discerning addition to any marque enthusiast’s collection, and an enjoyable companion for retro daily driving, weekend fun, and visits to classic car shows alike. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must independently satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description. Potential buyers should view or arrange inspections as well as conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy. Please note that it is not uncommon for classic or collectible vehicles to have received cosmetic repairs in the past, either to rectify damage or refresh appearance, and this work may be undetectable even upon visual inspection. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy. This includes by raising enquiries with the seller in the comments section. For vehicles, unless otherwise stated, potential buyers should also assume that any cherished registration may be retained by the seller. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details. This vehicle’s VIN has been checked against the Australian Personal Property Securities Register, and there is no security interest or other registration kind logged against the serial number.
