A handsome and luxurious modern classic, treated to a rare cabriolet conversion by Hamburg-based Styling Garage. Under the bonnet is a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The car is reportedly unrestored and rust-free, and has been displayed at various car shows throughout its life. This elegant 500 SEC is finished in Astral Silver Metallic over a grey leather-trimmed cabin with wooden inlays. It sits on a set of 15-inch alloy wheels shod with Pirelli tyres. The specification includes electric windows, air conditioning, cruise control, electrically adjustable front seats, an electric hood, and a Becker Grand Prix stereo with auxiliary input. The car was converted to ‘Marbella’ specification by Styling Garage (SGS) near Hamburg prior to delivery. Accompanying the car is the owner’s book pack, SGS booklet, service books, information about the car’s history and previous high-profile owners, first aid kid, toolkit, warning triangle, and two keys. The paintwork is said to be in very good condition, save for a little scuffing on the underside of the front bumper, light scratches on the lower section of the doors, and small stone chips on the front end and inside the wheel arches. The front bumper appears to be misaligned. Moving inside, the front seat lower cushions were recently retrimmed in new colour-matched leather. There is cracking on the driver’s seat outer bolster, minor marks on the rear seats, very small imperfections on the front passenger seat outer bolster, marks and a little fading on areas of the dashboard trim, wear on some of the switchgear, and minor stains on the carpet, though the cabin presents well overall. A slat is missing from the passenger side air vent and the driver’s interior door handle isn’t seated correctly. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, though notes that the vacuum central locking is sluggish in operation. The hood windscreen locks are functional but stiff to operate. The most recent roadworthiness test was conducted in 2015, and was said to result in a clean pass. The car was last serviced in October 2019 at 138,673 kilometres by Mercedes-Benz specialist Gullwing Motors, who replaced the engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, and wipers. Prior to this, a major service was carried out in August 2017, which included checking the belts, balancing the wheels, and replacing the engine oil and filters. In August 2015 at 138,359 kilometres, the timing chain and tensioner, radiator, spark plugs, engine mounts, and distributor cap and leads were replaced, the odometer was repaired, the engine was tuned, and the fuel rail and rocker cover gaskets were checked. When the car was purchased by the seller in February 2015, Three Point Classic carried out an ‘A’ service, which included servicing the transmission, fitting a new transmission mount, and replacing the air filter, wiper blades, steering tie rod assemblies, steering damper, both poly belts, and the exhaust mount rubbers. Four new Pirelli tyres were fitted in February 2015, and the rears were replaced again in 2022. This was due to one being damaged by a Tek Screw, so both were replaced to ensure a matching pair. This C126-era Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC is an elegant and powerful modern classic, and is believed to be one of just 32 right-hand drive examples converted by Hamburg-based coachbuilder and tuner Styling Garage. Well-maintained and reported by the seller to drive without fault, it would make an interesting addition to any enthusiast’s garage as well as a highly capable warm-weather cruising companion for many more enjoyable kilometres.
