Seller's Notes

This Toyota HJ61 Land Cruiser ‘Sahara’ is a rugged classic 4x4, which has been treated to significant maintenance in recent years. Under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre turbocharged straight-six diesel engine, which sends power to all four wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. This example boasts three owners from new, has been with its current owner for three years, and the odometer displays 468,606 km. The current owner has maintained the car well, including a full gearbox and torque converter rebuild, as well as replacement of the shock absorbers and front brake discs. The Land Crusier 60 Series was available in five standard colours and six metallic colours. This example is finished in solid Alpine White, with brown and beige velour in the cabin. It rides on 15-inch five-spoke chromed alloys, wrapped in Yokohama Geolander tyres. The cabin comes equipped with a Toyota-branded radio/cassette player, a UHF radio communication system, a heated rear windscreen with a rear windscreen wiper, air conditioning, an ‘ice maker’, an electrically operated sunroof, and electric windows. It comes with all of the original owner’s booklets, the service book, an advertising brochure, its tool kit, a history folder of invoices, and four keys. The Alpine White paintwork is noted by the seller as being in fair to good condition. There is obvious stone chipping on the front end in particular, under the headlights and on the bottom panel, scratches on the top of the bonnet, and some scuffing on the offside front wing, and nearside rear wing / corner. There is corrosion on the car’s sunroof which is clearly pictured, and some surface rust on the bumpers. Inside, the hard-wearing interior presents in impressive condition given the car’s mileage. The seller notes a repair to the driver’s door arm rest which is now starting to crack again, that the outer driver’s seat bolsters are slightly faded and worn, and that the rear right passenger seat has a small spot of wear on it. Elsewhere, the seats appear used but in good order, and the driver controls also present well with no major wear.. The seller notes that the rear screen washer is not working, and that the centre console fridge does not get cold. The windows are slow and stiff, but do function. The seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults, save those mentioned above. The oil pressure gauge is not working after being looked at twice, and it is believed to be a fault with the gauge itself. The gear box is under warranty still. After the gear box rebuilt on occasion it would not go into 4th gear, but this was looked at twice and no issue was found, and the issue has not reoccurred. The most recent inspection of roadworthiness was in April 2022 during which the seller reports that no warnings or advisory items were noted. The latest service was carried out during May 2022 at 464,898 km by Chris Colgraves Automatics. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change, along with a general inspection, a rotation of the tyres and a pressure check, as well as a hinge lubrication. Prior to this, the car was serviced in December 2021, which included an engine oil and filter change service, with a general inspection, a rotation of the tyres and a pressure check, as well as a hinge lubrication. Other work during ownership includes a gearbox and torque converter rebuild and replacement of the shock absorbers, leaf spring bushes, starter motor, power steering motor, steering dampener, front discs, and the rear main seal. The injectors were also cleaned and tested, a catch can installed and the brake drums machined. The seller notes that the tyres were replaced six months prior to sale. This Toyota HJ61 Land Cruiser ‘Sahara’ is a well-used but also well-maintained example of the capable 1980s off-roader, which has been cherished by its current owner who has attended to several notable mechanical jobs to ensure it is running and driving well. Presented in solid overall condition, and given the model’s reputation for reliability, it should continue to make a useful workhorse or off-road companion for its next owner.
