Seller's Notes

This Holden HSV VL SS Group A Walkinshaw is a well-preserved example of the particularly rare Australian homologation special sedan, offered with three owners from new. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 4.9-litre fuel-injected V8, delivering around 180kW to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. This example was manufactured in Melbourne, and was first registered in August 1988. This HSV VL SS Group A Walkinshaw is number 349 of just 750 examples produced, and is believed to be one of only 10 specified with a dealer-fitted Holden sunroof. The odometer shows a modest 59,630 Kms from new. The HSV VL SS Group A ‘Walkinshaw’, colloquially known as the ‘Walky’, was built to homologate the Holden VL Commodore Group A race car, and was the first car to be produced by Tom Walkinshaw’s Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) operation following the dissolution of the Holden Dealer Team in 1987. Initially just 500 Group A Walkinshaw examples were commissioned, though an extra 250 were built to satisfy increased demand. The iconic model features a distinctive Panorama Silver paint scheme, a specifically designed body kit that was said to reduce drag by over 25%, four main engine bolts, and was the first HSV to use both a twin throttle body and an electronic fuel injection system. As with all VL SS Group A Walkinshaw models, this example is finished in Panorama Silver over a grey cloth-trimmed interior, featuring patterned inserts on the seats and door cards. It rides on a correct set of 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres. The factory specification includes a dealer-installed sunroof, a black leather-trimmed Momo steering wheel, air conditioning, a Holden-branded cassette stereo, a heated rear screen, and electric windows. This example is also fitted with a higher-lift camshaft. It is unknown if this is one of the rare examples that was optioned with this camshaft at delivery. The car comes with the original owner’s manual, the service booklet, two keys, tools, and a jack. The engine intake plaque is deteriorated and a new-old-stock replacement comes with the sale. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: some minor wear on the gear knob and steering wheel. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights on the dashboard. The last stamped maintenance was in August 2023 at 59,630 Kms by Evolution Motorsport, with the mechanic factory-trained on these cars back in the 1990s. This Holden HSV VL SS Group A Walkinshaw is a very rare Australian homologation special, offered with three owners from new, and reported to be in highly original condition. Number 349 of just 750 examples produced, with a potent fuel-injected V8 engine, and boasting a distinctive aerodynamic body kit, it would make a discerning addition to any assembly of Australian performance heroes. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, potential buyers must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to bid or buy.
