This well-presented E34 M5 benefits from added performance with a Hartge Tuning Kit. Under the bonnet is a 3.6-litre inline-six, which now produces 350bhp, and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. First registered in 1989 in Japan, the car has covered around 153,000 km from new. The dashboard readout is higher as it was replaced with a second-hand unit, but the seller has documented on file evidencing the correct mileage history. This M5 has been with its current owner for six years and has been very well maintained. This E34 M5 was specified with Diamond Black metallic paintwork over a Nappa leather and Anthracite M-cloth interior. Original equipment includes climate control, electric windows, and heated seats. This M5 has been tuned by Hartge, with a badge between the two rear seats, which is believed to have included an ECU chip/remap and uprated cams, as well as the shallow Hartge rear wing on the boot lid. This M5 was also converted to right-hand drive in 2005, and the dashboard has been replaced as mentioned, with original receipts showing the kilometre readout change. Additional changes include the fitment of clear front indicators, a new exhaust, and an Alpine head unit. It rides on a set of 17-inch E39-generation M5 alloy wheels and features the factory-fitted body kit. The Japanese BMW delivery book, service history, and two workshop manuals are included. There is no known prior bodywork damage. The car’s rear spoiler and front lip are known to have been resprayed. The paintwork presents with minor imperfections on both front doors, a minor scratch on the boot near the Hartge badging, and a scuff on the left front wing above the wheel arch; but it is in good condition overall. Inside, the Black Nappa leather with Anthracite M-cloth seats have few light creases, while some minor scratches and scuffs can be seen on the rear centre console. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults The most recent roadworthiness test was in July 2021 with no advisories or warnings. The most recent routine maintenance was in May 2021 performed by Wollongong Prestige including new oil, filters, brake fluid, coolant, engine flush, and fuel treatment. Prior to this, the BMW M5 was serviced in April 2019 and July 2020. In 2019 technicians replaced the distributor cap, crank sensor, spark plugs, and leads, and in 2020 a minor service was carried out with fresh engine oil and filters. This M5 has been routinely serviced with preventative maintenance at ALS and Wollongong Prestige during the current ownership. A new battery has just been fitted at a cost of $395, with a 3-year warranty. This E34-generation BMW M5 is a smart example of the lauded performance saloon, and the last hand-built M car. Boasting a desirable factory specification and with added performance from Hartge, this modern classic M5 is in very good condition for its age, and would no doubt make an enjoyable and head-turning companion for weekend blasts or collector car shows.
