Seller's Notes

This Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 is an iconic classic hot hatch, which is said to have been restored by Peugeot Australia in 2015. It is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.9-litre inline-four, delivering 97kW to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the car was the winner of the 2016 Peugeot Club of NSW All-French Day ‘Best 205 GTi’ concours. The odometer indicates 243,245 kilometres, though this is not warranted. The seller reports that the odometer noted 230,000 kilometres at the time of the 2015 restoration. Build year: 1989 The car is finished in red over a grey and red cloth-trimmed cabin. It rides on a set of 14-inch ‘pepper-pot’ wheels. Equipment includes yellow-tinted driving lights, a rear light infill panel, theft-deterrant electronic immobiliser and Australian-delivery specification air conditioning. One key accompanies the sale. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: cracking around the instrument cluster and paint issues on exterior panels. The seller reports that the car was restored by Peugeot Australia in 2015 for use as their display car for the 208 GTi 30th Edition launch, and the restoration included rebuilding the engine, treating the bodywork to a bare-metal respray, and replacing or reupholstering various interior parts including the seats and dash instruments. The seller also states that as part of the restoration, the car was stripped to bare metal and resprayed, its exterior plastics were refurbished and the alloy wheels sand-blasted and reconditioned. Period-correct Michelin tyres were fitted and Peugeot Genuine Parts used wherever possible. Some original parts could not be sourced, so Peugeot Australia enlisted a 3D printer to reproduce smaller parts including the spindles on the air-conditioning control unit. The steering wheel was completely restored by hand with new leather and the instrument dials were hand-painted as part of the interior restoration. The seller also notes that the surface layer of paintwork has started bubbling in several areas and on most panels, which is reportedly due to an issue between the primer and paintwork layers. The most recent roadworthiness inspection was reportedly conducted on 23 March 2026. The seller reports that the car was last serviced in March 2026 at 243,232 kilometres by Paradise Garage Roseberry, who also re-gassed the air conditioning. Prior to this, yearly servicing was reportedly carried out by Paradise Garage, except during the Covid pandemic. The wing mirror has reportedly been replaced. The Peugeot 205 GTi is widely regarded as one of the greatest hot hatches of all time, celebrated for its agile handling, engaging performance, and iconic design. This example reportedly benefits from a comprehensive restoration by Peugeot Australia in 2015, having served as their show car. It would make a compelling addition to any collection of modern classics, and promises to deliver an exhilarating and pure driving experience on winding roads for its next enthusiastic owner.
