Seller's Notes

A very well-preserved example of the Toyota Celica GT-Four RC, built in limited numbers to homologate the vehicle for Group A competition. In the Japanese Domestic Market this model was known as the GT-Four RC, while it was sold in Australia as the ‘Group A Rallye’ and in Europe as the ‘Carlos Sainz Ediiton’. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-litre 3S-GTE inline-four, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. Out of 5000 units, 1,800 were for the Japanese market, 3,000 were allocated to Europe, 150 were delivered to Australia, 25 for Singapore, and a small number to other markets. Vehicle number 1098, it was originally delivered to Japan, but has now been with the seller in New South Wales for around 18 months. It has been unregistered and dry-stored since 2012, and the odometer indicates just 24,889 km Verified by Export certificate & Japanese history check. Special features on the GT-Four RC include a water-to-air intercooler instead of the standard air-to-air unit, as well as a different hood used to evacuate air from the engine bay rather than direct it to the intercooler, a small inlet duct for timing belt cooling, and a lighter, more aerodynamic front bumper. It also features a short-shift gearbox, with triple cone synchromesh on gears two and three, and shortened clutch pedal travel. Inside, it has a unique numbered plaque, which confirms its place in the limited production run. This example is finished in red, with a black bonnet accent and rear light surround, and with updated black door mirrors. It rides on 15-inch O.Z. Racing wheels, shod with Dunlop SP Sport D8 tyres. Inside, it has aftermarket black cloth-trimmed Bride front seats with coloured centre panels, black and blue fabric rear seats, electric windows and mirrors, a sunroof, air conditioning, a white gear knob, and an updated Alpine stereo. Accompanying the vehicle will be the original owner’s manuals and mirrors, along with a history check, its export certificate, and Concessional RAV Entry Approval correspondence from the Australian Government. Its red paintwork is reported to be in generally excellent condition, in keeping with the car’s low mileage. Minor blemishes can be seen on the front bumper, bonnet and around the sunroof. Inside, there is some minor fading on top of the original rear seats, and the plastic around the demister vents is beginning to lift. Overall though, the cabin still in great shape for its age. The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults. Its most recent service was undertaken at around 24,000 km, where the engine oil, filter, brake fluid and coolant were replaced. This Toyota Celica GT-Four RC (also known as the Group A Rallye or ‘Carlos Sainz Edition’) is a well-preserved example of the limited-run homologation special, with a few appealing modifications. Number 1098 of only 5,000 units produced, it would now make a desirable addition to any collection of Japanese modern classics, or an eye-catching car show companion. The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details. This vehicle’s VIN has been checked against the Australian Personal Property Securities Register, and there is no security interest or other registration kind logged against the serial number.
