Seller's Notes

This R129-generation Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 is a handsome and particularly well-presented example of the refined and stylish modern classic roadster, which is offered from long-term ownership. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.0-litre 24-valve inline-six, delivering around 170kW to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. This 300 SL-24 was originally a Hong Kong-delivered model, which is understood to have received Australian approval in 2003, and is believed to have been with the seller and third owner for 14 years. The odometer shows 120,076 Kms from new. This 300 SL-24 is finished in the timeless shade of Arctic White, with both a matching hard-top and a black convertible roof, over a black leather-trimmed interior punctuated by swathes of handsome wood veneer trim. It rides on an aftermarket set of 17-inch monoblock alloy wheels finished in silver with polished lips, which are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres. The factory specification includes headlamp washers, cruise control, automatic climate control, manually adjustable door mirrors, and electrically adjustable front seats with three-position memory. This 300 SL-24 has been upgraded with black lamb’s wool front seat covers, a fold-out Elinz media system with satellite navigation and a reversing camera, a Bluetooth adapter, and an aftermarket chrome two-bar front grille. The car comes with a one-man-operated lift attachment for removing and storing the hard-top roof, a pair of black front floor mats, a selection of spare parts, a warning triangle, a jack, tools, a spare wheel, two keys, and a folder containing a large collection of maintenance invoices. Please note: the numberplate ‘NB 090’ is not included in the sale. It will revert to an appropriate, age-related numberplate in the event of a successful auction. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: minor stone chips on the front wings. The seller is not aware of any mechanical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard, though they do note that the electronic headrest adjustment on the driver’s seat is not working, however, the tilt adjustment on the headrest can be adjusted manually. The seller notes that the receipts on file for the car’s maintenance and upgrades during their 14 years of ownership total around $40,000. This 300 SL-24’s most recent maintenance was carried out in March 2023 at 119,584 Kms by Geelong Merc Specialist, which consisted of an ‘A’ service, including an engine oil and filter change, and the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator being replaced. Prior to this, technicians at Geelong Merc Specialist replaced the front shock absorbers, and the rubber exhaust hanger in April 2022 at 118,818 Kms. Another ‘A’ service was performed in March 2022 at 118,746 Kms by Geelong Merc Specialist, which included an engine oil and filter change, and the spark plugs and brake fluid being changed. Other notable maintenance includes a new water pump being fitted, the gearbox and transmission being reconditioned, the throttle bodies and steering box reconditioned, a new headlight switch, an electrical switch replaced on the ignition switch, the convertible roof replaced, a new windscreen fitted, the hard-top headlining replaced, and the head gasket and front engine seals upgraded. This R129-generation Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-24 is a handsome and particularly well cared-for example of the ever-popular modern classic roadster, believed to have had three owners from new, and offered from long-term ownership. Presented with a timeless colour scheme, a lively yet smooth inline-six engine, and enhanced with a few discerning cosmetic and modernising upgrades, it would make a stylish companion for weekend drives, fair-weather cruising, and longer-distance touring alike.
