One of the first E36 M3s sold in Australia and one of the few ever made by the factory in the rare colour of Dakar Yellow and with the rare ‘sunroof delete’ option. It is powered by a 3.0-litre S50 straight-six producing 282bhp, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The car was delivered to Auto Classics BMW Perth, Western Australia in March of 1994. An all-original M3 in astonishing condition; the car has covered only 18,552 kilometres from new. Finished in rare Dakar Yellow, this ‘slick top’ sunroof delete M3 rides on the period-correct 17-inch ‘Style 24’ BMW Motorsport alloy wheels, and retains its original light lenses and badging. The wheels are all shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres. Inside, there is Anthracite Alcantara and ‘M rain’ pattern cloth for the front and rear, with the desirable manually adjustable ‘Vader’ seats. Factory equipment includes electric windows and mirrors, on-board computer, dual-zone climate control, heated rear screen, and the original BMW radio cassette deck. This M3 is accompanied by all its original owner’s manuals, warranty, service booklets, original spare wheel, and original BMW tool kit. This M3 presents in near-showroom condition throughout. Its factory Dakar Yellow is in superb condition, and is well documented in the photo gallery below. The 17-inch alloys are also pristine. Inside, the interior has virtually no signs of use, let alone any noticeable wear or discolouration. The plastics and switchgear are all in great shape, and it is clearly that this car has been fastidiously preserved. The vendor reports this M3 is to be in excellent mechanical condition with no known electrical faults, and it passed its pit inspection on 4 November 2021. The most recent service visit was in April 2021 at 18,501 kilometres at Waverley BMW. The service included an overall health check, engine oil service, brake fluid service, gear oil change, rear differential oil change, new microfilter, and new rocker cover gasket. Technicians also balanced the wheels, fitted a new battery, replaced the LHF brake line and hose, re-gassed the air conditioning, and fitted a new window regulator, bump stops, headlight switch bulb, and new door trims around the exterior handles. A handsomely presented, all-original BMW M3 coupe; this E36-generation car is a true modern classic in outstanding condition – and quite possibly the finest M3 in Australia. It would no doubt be very hard, perhaps impossible, to find another E36 M3 in such superb condition and with such low mileage, so this would be fine addition to any top-quality BMW collection.
