This Toyota Corolla FX GT is a lesser-seen 1990s hot hatch, which remains highly original and with low mileage. Its engine is the 1.6-litre 4AGE 20-valve ‘Silver Top’ inline-four, producing up to 118kW / 158bhp, driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The car was purchased in Japan by the previous owner in July 2017 as a grade 3.5B vehicle from LAA Kansai, with a verified mileage of 68,463km. The odometer now shows 70,893 km. This Corolla FX GT is finished in Silver Mica Metallic, and rides on 14-inch four-arm split-spoke alloy wheels. In the cabin, there are sport seats upholstered in grey cloth, with matching trim for the rear bench seat and the door panel inserts. Ahead of the driver is a leather-trimmed Italvolanti Imola Sport steering wheel, and there is also leather trim for the gear shifter. Factory equipment includes electric windows and mirrors, air conditioning and a heated rear screen. There are Alpine speakers on the rear parcel shelf, and a modern Alpine head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The only other known modifications are adjustable coilover suspension and a 5zigen exhaust. Accompanying the car is the original Japanese auction sheet showing its 3.5B rating and other details. The seller is not aware of any prior accident damage. Its paintwork is in generally good condition around the bodywork, though the finishes on some of the exterior trim has deteriorated with age. There is flaking to the wing mirror bases and stems, and also to the black window surrounds. A crack is present in the rear roof spoiler, and there is some paint fade on the boot lid and a blemish on the passenger door. Inside, the grey cloth upholstery shows signs of use in line with the mileage, but no heavy wear. There is slight UV fading as expected with age, and some visible wear around the steering wheel rim and the driver’s door window controls. The boot lid release is reported to be slightly sticky, but it can still be opened. No other electrical or mechanical faults or foibles have been detected. Its most recent service was at approximately 70,000 km, with an oil change carried out. This Toyota Corolla FX GT is a highly original example of the rare Japanese hot hatch, which also has low mileage that was verified before leaving its home market. The bodywork appears to be completely original, and while the paintwork could be improved around some of the exterior trims, it could easily be brought up to a superb standard. Reported to be running and driving very well, this Corolla FX GT would be an interesting addition to any assembly of JDM performance cars.
