This E34-generation BMW 540i Limited Edition is a very rare and desirable modern classic performance sedan, offered with a striking colour scheme and a solid history. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre ‘M60’ V8, which sends its power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This original Australian-market example was first registered in 1995, and has been with the seller for one year. This 540i Limited Edition is believed to be one of just 302 examples delivered worldwide, of which only 70 are thought to have been provided for the Australian market. The car offered here is believed to be the eighth from this batch, and it is understood to be one of only four examples specified in Techno Violet. The odometer shows 289,336 Kms from new. The 540i Limited Edition played an important role in the Australian market, having been released two years after the E34-generation M5 was withdrawn from the region. It paired impressive dynamics with a smooth 4.0-litre V8 and six-speed manual gearbox, as well as Servotronic steering, and the same sports interior as the M5, complete with leather-trimmed seats. This example is finished in the desirable shade of Techno Violet, over a black ‘Bison’ leather-trimmed interior, punctuated by fine wood trim. It rides on a set of 17-inch ‘Throwing Star’ alloy wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Equipment includes an electric lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, a top-tinted windscreen, an on-board computer, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, Automatic Stability Control, self-levelling suspension, Electronic Damper Control, and electrically adjustable front seats with three-position driver memory. This example has been fitted with a BMW Business CD stereo, high-flow catalytic converters, and an E36-era M3 steering wheel, as well as upgraded suspension, including adjustable Koni yellow shock absorbers, Eibach springs, and KW adjustable front struts. The car comes with a warning triangle, tools, a space-saver spare wheel, all the owner’s manuals, the stamped service booklet, various previous registration and owner’s details, and an A4 folder containing maintenance invoices dating from 2009 to present. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: stone chips on the front bumper, leading edge of the bonnet, and on the front wings, and age-related interior wear.
