This 1995 BMW 540i Limited Edition is a well-presented and original example of the rare E34-generation 5-Series, offered in mechanically excellent condition and benefitting from a previous respray. Under the bonnet is the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre ‘M60’ V8, which drives the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This 540i Limited Edition is believed to be one of 302 examples delivered worldwide, of which only 70 are thought to have been provided for the Australian market. It was first registered in August 1995 and is understood to have had five owners, with the seller acquiring the car around two years ago. The 540i Limited Edition played an important role in the Australian market, having been released, two years after the E34-generation M5 was withdrawn from the region. It paired much of the M5’s handling package with a smooth 4.0-litre V8 and six-speed manual, servotronic steering and the same sports interior as the M5, complete with leather-trimmed seats. This example features retrofitted Spax E32 lowering springs and Koni Sport Yellow dampers. This example is finished in the particularly handsome hue of Calypsorot (Calypso Red) Metallic, over a Parchment leather-trimmer interior, punctuated by fine wood trim inlays on the dashboard, door cards, and centre console. It rides on the correct set of 17-inch ‘M-System II’ alloy wheels, which have been fully refurbished and are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Factory-fitted equipment includes automatic stability control (ASC+T), cruise control, park distance control, automatic air conditioning, a BMW-branded radio/cassette player, electrically adjustable front seats with three-position driver memory, and an electric sunroof. This 540i Limited Edition has been updated with a Unichip installed to the ECU and features cat-back Hi-Line dual exhausts, ending in chrome tips through an M5 rear skirt. The Heckblende rear boot panel has been added and the front bumper has been changed. An M-Tech front bumper that requires refurbishment is also included in the sale. The car will be accompanied by its stamped service book, original sales brochure, original factory build sheet, buyer’s guide, Personal Property Securities Register history report, a list of works performed by the previous owner, service history documents and a number of prior ownership registrations dating back to 2005. The boot-mounted tool kit is also in place and is complete. As is to be expected given the car’s age, there are some creases, cracks and staining on the front seats, as well as some wear on the lower front corner of the driver’s door card, and a small scrape on the passenger-side end trim. The car holds a current VicRoads club permit and it passed its most recent roadworthiness test without issue or advisory. This 540i Limited Edition was most recently serviced by Auto Euphoria in September 2021 at approximately 285,000 kilometres. Work completed included supplying and fitting front and rear brakes, a brake flush, gearbox and differential service, coolant flush and supplying and fitting a PCV valve.
