This 1997 R129-generation Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG is a low-mileage example of the marque’s rare and potent V8-powered roadster, finished in a tasteful colour scheme. It is understood to be one of just 49 right-hand-drive SL60 AMGs built, and it remains in very good condition. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated hand-built 6.0-litre V8, delivering around 376bhp and 428lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays just 17,586 miles from new. Manufactured in September 1996, this UK-market SL60 AMG was first registered in January 1997 and was privately imported into Australia in 2002 by the original owner (a Vodafone executive). It was then sold to the son of a Mercedes-Benz dealer principal, and then the seller purchased it in December 2005 when the odometer showed 16,228 miles. This SL60 AMG is finished in Midnight Blue over a blue leather-trimmed cabin, punctuated by handsome burr walnut inlays. The car also comes with the sought-after panoramic glass hard top with sun blinds. It rides on a set of 18-inch AMG split-rim alloy wheels, shod with Dunlop tyres. The specification includes cruise control, electric windows, climate control, electrically adjustable multi-contour front seats with heating and memory, and a factory-fitted Becker Grand Prix CD player radio head unit. Included in the sale is the original owner’s book pack, the stamped service booklet, and a selection of paperwork which details the car’s original specification. The appropriate cherished registration ‘AMG 60’ is included in the sale. The Midnight Blue paintwork is described by the seller as being in generally excellent condition, and is believed to be original. The seller notes the odd isolated front end stone chip and a few light use-related scratches, by no major blemishes. Inside, the cabin presents in impressive order, with a little light wear on the driver’s door handle, and an indentation on the outer edge of the passenger seat, but no major wear or discolouration. The seller also notes that there is a hole in the boot carpet, which is pictured. The seller is not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults with the car. This SL60 AMG’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in 2021 at 17,538 miles by the technicians at Mercedes-Benz Melbourne, and was a ‘B’ service with an engine oil and filter change. Prior to this, the car was serviced in December 2004 which was an engine and oil filter change service at 11,822 miles, and in March 2004, which was another engine and oil filter change service at 8,581 miles. This is a handsome example of the lesser-seen R129-generation Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG, offered for sale by its owner of 18 years, and with a mere 17,586 miles on the odometer. While it may benefit from a routine service given the time elapsed since its last, this particularly smart and potent SL will no doubt make a natural addition to any enthusiast’s collection, and an ideal cruiser for longer trips and sunny summer weekends.
