Seller's Notes

This Volvo 850 R Estate is an exciting yet highly practical modern classic performance wagon. Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 2.3-litre five-cylinder engine, delivering around 186kW to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Volvo 850 estates were campaigned successfully in motor racing in Australia and the UK in mid-90s, earning them the nickname ‘The Flying Brick’. This example is understood to have originally been a Japan-delivered model, which is now located in Australia, having been imported by the seller earlier in 2024. The odometer shows 78,364 kms, however this is not warranted. This 850 R is finished in the rare hue of Turquoise Pearl metallic, over a beige leather and cream Alcantra trimmed interior, featuring contrasting black seat piping, and light wood veneer trim. It rides on a set of factory 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels finished in gunmetal and fitted with Falken Ziex tyres. Equipment includes headlamp washers, a top-tinted windscreen, an electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a Volvo-branded ‘Premium Sound System’ cassette and CD stereo with CD multichanger, switchable driving modes, shiftlock-override, heated door mirrors, switchable traction control, cruise control, and electrically adjustable heated front seats with three-position memory. The car comes with a warning triangle, a jack, tools, a spare wheel, and the Japanese owner’s manual and handbook and Vehicle Import Approval. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: very minor wear / ‘pilling’ on the synthetic suede on the front seat bolsters, and some light discolouration to the carpet trim on the doors. The seller notes that the air conditioning does function but will require a re-gas, the audio system needs a code entering to function. At the most recent service it was noted that the rear brakes are due for replacement and the driver’s seat belt may require replacing as it shows a fault code on the OBD scanner, however the seat belt is noted to be fully functioning and shows no signs of wear. This 850 R’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in August 2024 at an indicated 78,352 Kms by Perth Swedish Auto Centre, which consisted of an engine oil and filter change, a fuel system treatment, injector cleaner being run through the system, and a thorough mechanical examination. The cam belt is reported to have been replaced in July 2020 at an indicated 45,331 kms. This Volvo 850 R is a popular and highly versatile modern classic performance wagon. Presented with an attractive colour scheme, subtly yet sporty styling, and boasting an impressive combination of a lively turbocharged five-cylinder engine, robust build quality, and a spacious and practical cabin, it would make a characterful companion for retro daily driving, weekend adventures, and long-distance road trips alike. The description of this consignment is, to the best of the seller’s knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Unless there is an explicit statement by the seller to the contrary, please assume that any vehicle could have had bodywork or paintwork during its life. Furthermore, photographs may not reflect the true colour or full condition of the vehicle. It is a bidder’s responsibility to satisfy themselves of the colour and condition of a vehicle, including its interior and the existence of any remedial bodywork or paintwork, before committing to bid or buy.
