This E36-generation BMW M3 Convertible Anniversary Edition is an honest and well-kept example of the desirable limited-edition modern classic performance hero, offered with three owners from new, and enhanced by a few tasteful cosmetic and performance upgrades. Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.2-litre ‘S50’ straight-six with an ECU tune, driving the rear wheels via a six-speed ‘SMG’ automated manual transmission. This original Australian-delivered example was first registered in May 1999, and is understood to have originally been owned by the lead drummer of Mondo Rock, Gill Matthews. This example has been with the seller and third owner for more than five years. The odometer shows 85,761 Kms from new. This M3 Convertible Anniversary Edition is number 60 of just 70 examples produced for the Australian market, is believed to be one of only six that were specified in Fern Green, of which only two were fitted with the SMG transmission. The M3 Convertible Anniversary Edition was produced to celebrate 20 years of the BMW ‘M’ brand. This example is finished in the attractive hue of Fern Green with a black convertible roof, over an extended black Nappa leather-trimmed interior, featuring handsome wood veneer trim inlays. It rides on an aftermarket set of 18-inch staggered AC Schnitzer alloy wheels, shod in Continental ContiSportContact 5 tyres. The factory specification includes a green top-tinted windscreen, a cassette stereo with CD multichanger, dual-zone automatic climate control, an on-board computer, electrically adjustable heated front seats, and cruise control. This M3 Convertible now features professionally widened rear wheel arches, the rear subframes strengthened with plates, an ECU tune, and adjustable BC Racing suspension. Please note: the numberplate ‘PMZ 942’ shown on the car is not included in the sale. It will be sold unregistered. The car comes with some tools, a spare wheel, a wheel brace, a printed-out CarHistory report, two keys, a spare key, the original service cards, all the owner’s manuals with a black leather wallet, and the partially stamped service booklet. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: some very minor stone chips, scratches and scuffs, a small cigarette burn on the driver’s seat, and the odd patch of interior discolouration. The seller is not aware of any mechanical faults with the car, though they do note that the air conditioning needs re-gassing, and the ABS fault light is illuminated. This M3’s most recent maintenance was carried out in 2019 at around 85,000 Kms by Midas Tingalpa, which consisted of a minor service, including new oils, and a general inspection.
