Seller's Notes

This DRB 540 is a handsome and extremely rare custom-built tribute to the distinctive one-off “Project Daisy" Shelby Cobra Concept, a V10 prototype that Ford chose not to put into production. Under the front clam shell sits a rebuilt XR8 Falcon-sourced 5.4-litre ‘Boss 260’ V8, delivering around 260kW to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. This DRB 540 is one of approximately 30 examples produced. The odometer shows 17,286 km. Build year: 2009 In 2004, Ford USA unveiled the Shelby Concept Cobra at the Detroit North American International Motor Show. The one-off model was inspired by the legendary 1960s sports car but now featured a 6.8-litre V10 engine, as well as a rear-mounted transaxle and suspension components from the Ford GT. Instantly awed by the Shelby Concept Cobra, the founder and former owner of DRB Sportscars, Denis Bedford, set about creating a series of kit cars from little more than photographs and a scale model, built as tributes to the desirable yet unattainable concept car. The resulting 540 models utilised components from a donor BA, BF, or FG Ford Falcon XR8 or GT sedan, and featured a welded aluminium monocoque, integrated roll hoops mounted behind the seats, and a moulded fibreglass body shell. This example is finished in orange, with a black soft-top roof, over a black fabric-trimmed interior. It rides on a set of chromed 18-inch Raceline alloy wheels, wrapped in Accelera tyres. Equipment includes a dual-exit exhaust system, cruise control, a built-in CD stereo, a central infotainment system, and air conditioning. Accompanying the vehicle will be an assembly manual, a Ray Cross and Associates engineering report, an emissions test report, an Australian Government seatbelt anchorages report, and correspondence from Robinson Racing Developments regarding the identity of the rebuilt engine. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. The seller reports that the car’s most recent service was completed in May 2024 at 16,650 km by Euro Truck Spares. This DRB 540 is a handsome and extremely rare custom-built tribute to the distinctive one-off “Project Daisy" Shelby Cobra Concept, a V10 prototype that Ford chose not to put into production. One of approximately 30 examples produced, with a lightweight yet rigid aluminium chassis, a featherweight fibreglass body shell and various XR8 Falcon-sourced components, it would make a notable addition to any collection, and an attention-grabbing companion for weekend drives, fair-weather cruising, and visits to classic and custom car shows alike.
