Seller's Notes

This DRB SC540 is a handsome and extremely rare custom-built tribute to the distinctive one-off Shelby Concept Cobra, offered for sale by its second owner from new and benefitting from the fitment of a recently built supercharged V8 engine. Under the front clam shell sits a Harrop-supercharged and intercooled forged 5.4-litre V8, understood to produce up to 441kW (600hp), and driving the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. This example has been with the seller and second owner for one year. This DRB SC540 is number 23 of only approximately 30 examples produced. The odometer indicates 15,595 Kms, though this is not warranted. In 2004, Ford USA unveiled the Shelby Concept Cobra at the Detroit North American International Motor Show. The one-off model was inspired by the legendary 1960s sports car but now featured a 6.8-litre V10 engine, as well as a rear-mounted transaxle and suspension components from the Ford GT. Instantly awed by the Shelby Concept Cobra, the founder and former owner of DRB Sportscars, Denis Bedford, set about creating a series of kit cars from little more than photographs and a scale model, built as tributes to the desirable yet unattainable concept car. The resulting SC540 models utilised BA-generation Ford Falcon components, and featured a welded aluminium monocoque, integrated roll hoops mounted behind the seats, and a moulded fibreglass body shell. This example is finished in a timeless shade of black with subtle dark silver twin stripes, carbon-fibre door mirrors housings and rear spoiler, and a carbon-fibre-effect vinyl wrapped removable hard-top roof, over a BA-generation XR8 Falcon-sourced grey leather-trimmed interior. It rides on a set of 20-inch Vertini Concave Series ‘Magic’ alloy wheels finished in matte grey, framing red PBR Performance-branded callipers and shod in Falken FK452 tyres. This SC540 features LED running lights, LED taillights, a quad-exit exhaust system, cruise control, a built-in CD stereo, air conditioning, ‘Cobra’ chrome tread plates, coilover suspension, and electric windows. The car comes with an SCT flash device handheld tuner and the engine build sheet. Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition. Specific notes from the seller include: a small crack in the lower driver’s side skirt. The seller is not aware of any mechanical faults, though they do note that the park selector doesn’t always show. The car’s last REGO test was conducted in 2022, which is understood to have resulted in a clean-pass with no advisories. Notable maintenance includes a completely new Harrop-supercharged and intercooled forged V8 engine being built and fitted around 15,000 Kms ago by the technicians at Casey Automotive. This DRB SC540 is a menacing and extremely rare custom-built tribute to the distinctive one-off Shelby Concept Cobra, offered for sale by its second owner from new and benefitting from the fitment of a recently built Harrop-supercharged forged V8 engine. Number 23 of only approximately 30 examples produced, with a lightweight yet rigid aluminium chassis, a featherweight fibreglass body shell, and a very powerful supercharged and intercooled V8 engine, it would make a notable addition to any collection, and an attention-grabbing companion for weekend drives, fair-weather cruising, and visits to classic and custom car shows alike.
