EL (1996 to 1998)

Produced from 1996 to 1998, the Ford Falcon EL was the final and most refined evolution of the E-Series Falcons, bridging the gap between the EB–EF lineage and the all-new AU. Built exclusively in Australia, the EL focused on mechanical and safety upgrades rather than radical styling changes, introducing driver and passenger airbags, revised suspension tuning, and improvements to NVH and reliability. Power came from Ford’s proven 4.0-litre inline-six (naturally aspirated or optional XR6 tune), while performance variants included the XR6, XR8, and the limited GT, the latter developed with Tickford and powered by a 5.0-litre V8. Approximately 249,000 EL Falcons were produced. In the Australian market, the EL is valued for its durability and end-of-era status, with strongest demand for XR and GT variants, manual transmissions, originality, and low-kilometre examples as clean survivors become harder to find.
