MARKET ANALYSIS
XL (1962 to 1964)

Introduced in 1962, the Ford Falcon XL was the first Australian-assembled Falcon and represented Ford Australia’s move to better adapt the model to local conditions after the fragile, fully imported XK. Offered in sedan, wagon, utility, and panel van body styles, the XL featured revised suspension, heavier-duty components, and improved cooling, while power came exclusively from inline-six engines, as V8s had not yet entered the Falcon lineup. Although still modest by later standards, the XL laid the groundwork for the Falcon’s long-term success in Australia by addressing durability and usability for local roads. Approximately 79,000 XL Falcons were produced between 1962 and 1964. In the Australian market, the XL is valued for its historical significance as the first locally built Falcon, with demand focused on original examples, commercial body styles, and unrestored survivors, which have become increasingly scarce.
