MARKET ANALYSIS
XW (1969 to 1970)

Introduced in 1969, the Ford Falcon XW represents one of the most significant chapters in Australian motoring history, marking the point where the Falcon evolved from family transport into a serious high-performance muscle car. Built exclusively in Australia, the XW range included sedan, wagon, panel van, and ute body styles, and offered a wide spread of engines—from inline sixes to large-capacity V8s. Most famously, the XW underpinned the legendary GT-HO Phase I, developed to dominate Australian touring car racing and laying the groundwork for Ford’s Bathurst success. Total XW Falcon production exceeded approximately 96,000 units, with GT and GT-HO variants representing only a tiny fraction of that figure. In the Australian market, the XW is a blue-chip collectible, with values driven heavily by GT and GT-HO provenance, original drivetrains, matching numbers, and build documentation, while even non-GT examples are increasingly recognised for their role in the birth of Australia’s muscle car era.
