About the Ford Mustang 1st Gen 1967 to 1968

The 1967–1968 Ford Mustang marked the second major evolution of the first-generation Mustang, introducing a larger, more aggressive body, revised styling and significantly expanded performance capability. For the first time, Ford engineered the Mustang to accept big-block V8 engines, helping transform it from a compact pony car into a serious muscle car contender while retaining popular six-cylinder and small-block V8 options. The range included the Base Mustang and Mustang GT, alongside notable variants such as the 1968 California Special (GT/CS) and high-performance Cobra Jet models powered by the legendary 428ci V8. Updates to the suspension, steering and overall chassis improved comfort and handling, while buyers could choose from coupe, fastback and convertible body styles with manual or automatic transmissions driving the rear wheels. Today, the 1967 and 1968 Ford Mustang remain among the most desirable classic American performance cars, with values heavily influenced by body style, engine specification, factory options, originality, matching-numbers status and condition.
