MARKET ANALYSIS
5th Gen (2005 to 2014)

Produced from 2005 to 2014, the fifth-generation Ford Mustang (S197) marked a major turning point for the model, reviving classic muscle car styling with modern engineering in what became one of the most successful Mustang generations ever. Inspired heavily by the original late-1960s cars, the S197 was offered in coupe and convertible body styles and featured a wide range of engines, from V6 units to the much-loved 4.6-litre and later 5.0-litre Coyote V8 in GT models. Performance highlights included the Shelby GT500, Boss 302, and Boss 302 Laguna Seca, which re-established the Mustang as a serious performance and track-capable car. Total production exceeded approximately 1.5 million units across its run. In the Australian market, fifth-gen Mustangs arrived primarily as imports before official RHD sales began later with the S550, and today values are driven by Coyote-powered GTs, manual gearboxes, Shelby and Boss variants, and low-kilometre examples, with the S197 increasingly recognised as a modern classic that successfully bridged retro appeal and contemporary performance.
