1st Gen (1991 to 2005)

Launched in 1990, the first-generation Honda NSX fundamentally redefined what a modern supercar could be, combining exotic performance with everyday usability and legendary reliability. Developed with input from Ayrton Senna, the NSX featured an all-aluminium monocoque, mid-engine layout, and a naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V6 (later 3.2-litre) with VTEC, paired to manual or automatic transmissions and rear-wheel drive. Early cars are known as NA1, while later updates—including the 3.2-litre engine and 6-speed manual—are referred to as NA2, alongside the 2002 facelift that replaced pop-up headlights with fixed units. Total first-generation NSX production is approximately 18,000 cars worldwide, making it genuinely low-volume by supercar standards. In the Australian market, the NSX was officially sold in small numbers and remains highly respected for its engineering purity, motorsport pedigree, and long-term durability, with values driven by manual transmission, pre-facelift vs facelift preference, originality, mileage, and provenance, as collectors increasingly recognise it as one of the most important Japanese performance cars ever built.
