Introduced in 1999 to celebrate Honda’s 50th anniversary, the Honda S2000 AP1 is the original and most raw iteration of Honda’s iconic rear-wheel-drive roadster, engineered with an uncompromising focus on driver engagement. Powered by the legendary F20C 2.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-four, the AP1 produced up to 247 hp and famously revved to 9,000 rpm, making it one of the highest specific-output production engines of its era, paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual and a lightweight chassis with near-perfect weight distribution. The AP1 is known for its sharper, more aggressive character compared to later AP2 models, with a shorter rear differential and a livelier handling balance that rewards skilled driving. Global AP1 production is estimated at approximately 63,500 units, forming the early portion of total S2000 output.
