R232 (2022 to Present)

The Mercedes-Benz SL R232 debuted for the 2022 model year and represents a complete reinvention of the SL, now engineered and marketed entirely under Mercedes-AMG. Built on a new aluminium space-frame platform, the R232 returns the SL to a more performance-focused brief, offered exclusively as a two-door soft-top roadster with standard rear-wheel steering and the option of AMG 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive for the first time in SL history. Engine options include a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four and a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, with core variants such as the SL43, SL55 4MATIC+, and SL63 4MATIC+, followed by the luxury-focused Mercedes-Maybach SL680 unveiled in 2024. Still in production today, the R232 positions the SL as a true luxury performance roadster, and in the Australian market it has been well received for blending AMG performance, modern technology, and open-top grand touring appeal, with V8 and Maybach variants sitting at the top of desirability.
