Tommi Makinen Edition (1999 to 2001)

Introduced in 1999, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition (TME)—also known as the Evo 6.5—was a limited-production celebration of Tommi Mäkinen’s four consecutive World Rally Championship Drivers’ titles and is widely regarded as the pinnacle of the classic rally-era Evolutions. Offered in both RS and GSR trims, the TME featured a unique front bumper, revised aero, lower ride height, sharper suspension tuning, quicker steering response, and remained mechanically faithful to the proven 2.0-litre turbocharged 4G63 with all-wheel drive. Notably, it was the only Evo VI available in factory red, adding to its instant recognisability. Production was capped at approximately 2,500 units worldwide, with build ending in 2001. In the Australian market, the TME was never officially sold and exists solely as an import, making genuine examples highly sought after, with values driven by authentic TME features, originality, RS vs GSR specification, condition, and provenance, firmly cementing its status as one of the most collectible Mitsubishi performance cars ever built.
