GT R (1995 to 1998)

Introduced for the 1996 model year (late 1995 in some markets), the Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 succeeded the iconic R32 and continued Nissan’s dominance in high-performance engineering through the late 1990s. Built as a more stable and refined evolution of its predecessor, the R33 retained the RB26DETT 2.6-litre twin-turbo inline-six, paired to a five-speed manual transmission, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive, and HICAS four-wheel steering, delivering improved high-speed composure and endurance capability. While the vast majority were coupes, Nissan commissioned 416 four-door GT-R sedans in 1997 through Autech to mark the Skyline’s 40th Anniversary, adding a unique chapter to the model’s history. Notable variants included the V-Spec, V-Spec N1, LM Limited, V-Spec LM Limited, and the ultra-rare NISMO 400R. Production concluded in 1998 ahead of the R34, with 16,668 examples built worldwide. In the Australian market, the R33 GT-R has grown in stature as collectors reassess its engineering depth, relative rarity, and usability, with values driven by variant, originality, mileage, condition, and provenance, and limited editions increasingly separating themselves at the top end of the market.
