V Spec (1999 to 2000)

Introduced in 1999, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec I—short for Victory Specification—was developed as a more focused and technically advanced version of the standard R34 GT-R, building directly on Nissan’s motorsport success of the late 1990s. The V-Spec I distinguished itself through meaningful mechanical upgrades, most notably the ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel-drive system, which added an active rear limited-slip differential, along with stiffer suspension tuning, enhanced braking hardware, and aerodynamic additions including a rear diffuser and revised front and side splitters. Power came from the revered RB26DETT 2.6-litre twin-turbo inline-six, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. Production ran only until 2000, before being replaced by the V-Spec II, with 4,289 examples built worldwide, including 81 UK, 10 Hong Kong, 10 Singapore, and 5 New Zealand market cars. In the Australian market, V-Spec I models are highly sought after due to their limited production, stronger mechanical specification over base GT-Rs, and increasing collectability, with values driven by originality, mileage, condition, and provenance, particularly for low-kilometre, unmodified examples as the R34 GT-R market continues to mature at the top end.
