Base Model (1974 to 1977)

Introduced for the 1974 model year, the base model Porsche 911 formed the entry point to the newly developed G-body range, launched alongside the 2.7-litre 911S and Carrera 2.7 as Porsche responded to tightening global impact safety and emissions regulations. Distinguished simply by its “911” badging, the base model featured a 2.7-litre flat-six with K-Jetronic (CIS) fuel injection, initially using engine type 911/92 and producing 150 hp in coupe and Targa form. From 1975, the base model was withdrawn from the North American market, leaving the 911S and Carrera variants as the only options there, while Rest of World (ROW) production continued with engine type 911/41 at the same output. For the 1976 and 1977 model years, ROW base cars received a power increase to 165 hp via engine type 911/81 (or 911/86 with Sportomatic), improving performance while retaining their simpler positioning below the S and Carrera models. In the Australian market, base model G-body 911s are uncommon and typically ROW-spec imports, valued for their lighter specification, period-correct driving feel, and relative mechanical simplicity. Values are influenced by year, engine type, originality, body style, and condition, with well-documented cars and sympathetically modified examples often tracked separately ahead of the transition to the 911 SC in 1978.
