Debuting in 1984 as the successor to the 911 SC Targa, the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa carried the classic semi-open Targa concept into the final and most refined years of the G-body era. Built in narrow-body form, it combined the signature removable roof panel with the naturally aspirated 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Early cars were fitted with Porsche’s 915 transmission, while a significant mechanical upgrade arrived in 1987 with the introduction of the Getrag G50 gearbox, now widely regarded as the more desirable setup.
